2014 Pinot Meunier - Parliament Hills
Parliament Hills Vineyard
Our mission to offer the ultimate Pinot Noir experience would not be complete without including a truly unique wine from this closely related grape to Pinot Noir. Also known as Miller’s Pinot, because the grape leaves look as if they were dusted with flour, Pinot Meunier is the predominant variety used in Champagne. When the grapes are harvested and pressed early, the resulting wine is extremely vibrant and full bodied with almost no fruitiness. The neutral wine is the perfect base for Champagne, where beautiful flavors of aging on the yeast, in the bottle, is the star. In California’s Sonoma Coast AVA, interesting deep and complex flavors develop, too complex for sparkling wine, but create the perfect opportunity for us to make an extremely rare example of red wine produced from this ancient variety. Only an estimated 40 acres of Pinot Meunier are still planted in California.
